JULIA GALLO

1 Outubro 2019 – 31 Outubro 2019

BIO:

JULIA GALLO lives and works in São Paulo. Bachelor of Fine Arts from FAAP, she integrated from 2015 to 2018 the Group of research and practice in painting under the guidance of artists Regina Parra and Rodolpho Parigi, and the Monitoring Group of Projects, taught by artist Thiago Honório and curator Ana Paula Cohen, in 2019. Drawing, painting and animation are the main poetic instruments that the artist uses to bring issues related to body and movement. From a fictional universe, her research focuses on the idea of a body that confronts a state of discontinuity, finitude and uncertainty. A contemporary body understood as that which no longer has the capacity to form, yielding to its own inevitable deformations - incessantly it twists, crumbles, weakens, falls, moans, wobbles, tumbles, tears, breaks down. In recent years, she has participated in exhibitions such as: the 48th, 49th and 50th Anual de Arte FAAP, at Museu de Arte Brasileira, São Paulo [2016, 2017, 2018]; "Exercício", Galeria Jaqueline Martins, curated by Marcio Harum, São Paulo [2017]; "Respirar sem oxigénio", Galeria Millan, curated by Regina Parra, São Paulo [2017]; "Lotada", Edifício Lutetia, curated by Marcos Moraes, São Paulo [2019].

PROJECT:

Drawing, painting and animation are the main poetic instruments that the artist uses to bring issues related to body and movement. From a fictional universe, her research focuses on the idea of a body that confronts a state of discontinuity, finitude and uncertainty. A contemporary body understood as that which no longer has the capacity to form, yielding to its own inevitable deformations - incessantly twisting, weakening, falling, moaning, wobbling, tumbling, tearing, and crumbling down.
From this research, a series of questions arise indirectly linked to the current political and social reality: what bodies do we need to build to live the present? How can we allow ourselves to be weak?
During the open studio, the artist will perform some experiments within the exhibition space, linked to a research of material developed during the residency period. Given the procedural character of this event, a body of work still under construction will be shown, which will keep moving during the four days that the space will be open.
