It is common in the production of metals to use alloys, that is, to combine metals with other elements (usually non-metals). The result of the mixture gives rise to materials that generally differ from the base metals, providing them with new qualities, namely greater mechanical robustness, hardness, or corrosion resistance. Organized by João Fonte Santa, LIGA is an artistic project that fosters a co-authorial approach, where the results of a dialogue between artists materialize in a joint installation exhibited for one day in Zaratan's black box.
Biographies:
SUSANA CHIOCCA | She holds a PhD in Contemporary Art from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Cuenca at the University of Castilla-La Mancha and a degree in Fine Arts from FBAUP. Currently serving as a guest lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the College of the Arts at the University of Coimbra, as well as at Lusófona University, she has been an active force in the art world since 1999. Her career is defined by a prolific output of exhibitions, events, and workshops, with a particular emphasis on programming within the realm of performance art. Notable projects include the creation of the "a Sala" space alongside António Lago and the curation of events such as "Estilhaços" and "Acesso de Vertigem" at Maus Hábitos. Her multidisciplinary practice seamlessly transitions between drawing, installation, video, sound, photography, and performance, often centering on the power of text. This is evident in long-term performative projects like "BITCHO" and "Balla Prop," where music and moving images converge. Chiocca’s work has been refined through prestigious residencies at institutions like Espaço do Tempo and Steim in Amsterdam, and her recent solo exhibitions, such as "Soluços Sussurros Labaredas" at Espaço Mira, continue to explore the visceral boundaries of contemporary visual language alongside her participation in significant group shows across Portugal.

PEDRO CABRAL-SANTO | Born in Lisbon in 1968, Pedro Cabral-Santo is a visual artist, curator, and educator whose influence has been fundamental in shaping the hybrid landscapes of contemporary Portuguese art since the 1990s. With a comprehensive academic background culminating in a PhD from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon, he now directs the Visual Arts program at the University of the Algarve. His artistic methodology is deeply interdisciplinary, utilizing installation, video, and sculpture to foster a critical dialogue regarding consumerism and the saturation of modern media. By weaving together elements of pop culture, science fiction, and high-tech devices, Cabral-Santo employs irony and self-reflection to deconstruct the modern overflow of imagery and bridge the gap between artistic expression and philosophical inquiry. His distinguished career includes major solo exhibitions at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Chiado Museum, complemented by an extensive curatorial record that includes founding platforms like "Autores em Movimento" and the musical collective "IK-." His work is held in prestigious permanent collections, most notably at the Modern Art Center of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, marking a trajectory that balances technical experimentation with rigorous conceptual depth in constant conversation with an evolving visual culture.
