It is common in the production of metals to use alloys, that is, to combine metals with other elements (usually non-metals). The result of the mixture gives rise to materials that generally differ from the base metals, providing them with new qualities, namely greater mechanical robustness, hardness, or corrosion resistance. Organized by João Fonte Santa, LIGA is an artistic project that fosters a co-authorial approach, where the results of a dialogue between artists materialize in a joint installation exhibited for one day in Zaratan's black box.

Biographies:

BÁRBARA FONTE | A visual artist, born in 1981, she has been dedicated to artistic production since 2005, working in the mediums of drawing, photography, performance, and video. She holds a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and a postgraduate degree in the Theory and Practice of Drawing from the same faculty. Her work is described as an intimate performance that explores the language of symbols (an evocative and omissive, ancient and manifest, intimate and common place...). It invokes the relationship between the feminine, culture, and religion from an individual perspective, in tune with a personal history and an empirical attitude. The work explores the dialogue between the impulses of the psyche and the instincts of a body-self in the face of the collective consciousness as beings of dogma.

SUSANA MENDES SILVA | (Lisbon, 1972) is a visual artist, performer, and assistant professor at the University of Évora/DPAO. Her work integrates a research and archival practice component, which translates into works whose historical and political references materialize in exhibitions, actions, and performances through the most diverse means of production. Her universe contemplates and reconfigures diverse social contexts without losing sight of the individual's singularity. Her psychological intimacy or her voice are often vehicles for the dissemination and reception of poetic and political messages that summon and reactivate the memory of the participants and spectators. Susana studied Sculpture at FBAUL (Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon) and attended the doctoral program in Visual Arts (Studio Based Research) at Goldsmiths College, London, having been a fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She holds a PhD in Contemporary Art from the Colégio das Artes of the University of Coimbra, with a thesis based on her performance practice – "Performance as an intimate encounter". She is also an integrated researcher at CEIS20 – Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Coimbra and a board member of AAVP — the Association of Visual Artists in Portugal.
