It is common in the production of metals to use alloys, that is, to combine metals with other elements (usually non-metals). The result of the mixture gives rise to materials that generally differ from the base metals, providing them with new qualities, namely greater mechanical robustness, hardness, or corrosion resistance. Organized by João Fonte Santa, LIGA is an artistic project that fosters a co-authorial approach, where the results of a dialogue between artists materialize in a joint installation exhibited for one day in Zaratan's black box.
Biographies:
GIL FERRÃO | Vila Franca de Xira, 1996. He lives and works in Aguiar, Évora. In his work, he explores the union of the conscious and the unconscious, where diverse materials and supports can coexist. He describes his works as experiences that he likes to take outside of museums and share with strangers. He exhibits regularly and has participated in artistic residencies since 2016. He is represented by Artemis Gallery, Lisbon.
ANTÓNIO CARAMELO | Born in Angola. Lives in Oeiras. He graduated in Sculpture from FBAUL (Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon) and holds a Master's degree in Media Art from MECAD / Ramon Llull University, Barcelona. He was a lecturer at the University of Évora in the Visual Arts-Multimedia Course (2001 - 2015). As a visual artist, he has held numerous exhibitions in Portugal and abroad since 1999, including Spain, USA, Croatia, Belgium, UK, Norway, and Scotland. Together with João Fonte Santa, he organized exhibitions at Plataforma Revolver between 2002 and 2009, and in alternative spaces. He was the programmer for the Buganvília Sessions, an editorial project on the intersection between video art and music, at Zaratan. Since 2018, he has organized Sunsetnoise at SMUP, an event linked to the intersection of sound arts with the movement of the solar system. He has collaborated on the conception and presentation of various audiovisual projects for music, theater, and contemporary dance. Individually, he created a musical project in 2016 called Demónio António, with several public performances (Serralves, MAAT, SMUP, etc.).
