Free entrance
Support: República Portuguesa – Cultura / Direcção-Geral das Artes
This concert by Zarabatana is organized to celebrate the closing of the exhibition “Colibri em Chamas”, curated by Maja Escher and with works by Norberto Lobo, Oro Íris and Yaw Tembe.
"Hello. I'm Zarabatana. I was born in 2013 or 2012, I don't even remember it. I'm Bernardo Álvares (double bass), Carlos Godinho (percussion), Yaw Tembe (trumpet) and Norberto Lobo (guitar).
They play with the density of sound molecules with the dedication of someone who is convinced that rhythms itch, snap and spit. Surprisingly, despite not being their goal, they cure evil eye and rejuvenate skin. They also use fifes and rattles, and make noises with their mouths. But pay attention! The music they make me, or that I am, I don't know exactly how to say it, it's like Heraclitus saying that you can't cross the same river twice. They don't play me the same song twice. It's called improvisation: the music comes out of nowhere... I'm kidding! It comes from all the encounters since I was born, from the bones, from the dreams, from the hands and memories and that. I’ve been Fogo na Carne, O Terceiro Corno, Lenga Lenga and Cum Raio, the last cassette they put me on.”
Carlos Godinho - percussions and more
Bernardo Álvares - double bass and more
Yaw Tembe - trumpet and more
Norberto Lobo - guitar and more
