VERSUS IV | Last King Of Poland Vs. Presidente Drógado

Associação Terapêutica do Ruído and Zaratan - Arte Contemporânea present Versus, a new cycle of concerts taking place every month at Zaratan. Following an eclectic principle of programming, the assumption of this new musical adventure is to join different, or even opposites, projects together in the same session. In this apparent antagonism we seek to find points of contact and / or divergence that somehow illustrate the complexity and diversity of the stylistic definitions of contemporary music. In each session there will be the launch of a poster printed in risography, created especially for the occasion. By invitation of Zaratan, different artists are challenged to develop an image in some way related to the theme of antagonism, also inspired by the sounds of the projects invited by ATR.
In this fourth session the antagonists are the American Last King Of Poland with its monarchical noise and the Portuguese Presidente Drógado with its republican songs. The guest visual artist is Marcos Farrajota.

Last King Of Poland:
Last King Of Poland is a solo experimental/noise project from Tomasz Jurczak. Tomas started out in the chiptune/gameboy scene, moved towards harsh noise/ambient and began making music under the Last King of Poland moniker in 2007. His main instruments consist of a large pedalboard used for feedback as well as various noisemakers/synths. His focus is on making extremely emotional noise music in opposition to the modern paradigm of drinking beer and turning a knob. He feels that the excess of noise music can make people reflect on their lives in extremely positive ways.
Presidente Drógado:
Presidente Drógado é o alter-ego de Filipe Leote, músico, performer, professor, discófilo e membro de bandas como Traumático Desmame ou Kromleqs. Apesar de ultimamente ter vindo a explorar uma faceta mais eléctrica com a sua Banda Suporte, neste concerto na Zaratan apresentar-se-á em formato acústico com a participação vocal de Patrícia Filipe (com quem partilha também o projecto Come-se a pele?) para nos mostrar algumas das suas “Canções de Faca e Alguidar”, título do próximo disco que será editado em Maio, uma espécie de “Murder Ballads” à portuguesa repleto de horror-folk a lembrar as “Canções do Ceguinho”.
Marcos Farrajota:
Marcos Farrajota (Lisboa, 1973) trabalha na Bedeteca de Lisboa desde 2000. Faz BD e fanzines desde 1992 quando criou com o Pedro Brito o zine mutante Mesinha de Cabeceira que ainda hoje edita (28 números). Em 1995 criou com outros autores a Associação Chili Com Carne e em 2000 criou a editora MMMNNNRRRG "só para gente bruta". Participou em vários fanzines, jornais, revistas e livros com BDs ou artigos sobre cultura DIY, música ou BD pelo mundo fora. Tem feito capas e cartazes para bandas punks e afins. Organizou ou fez parte de organização de vários eventos como a Feira Laica (2004-12), bem como acções de formação, colóquios, exposições, rádio e "unDJing".
