BIO:
RON GALLIPOLI is the nom de plume of musician, writer, and teacher Samuel Bradford. He gained a Masters degree in scriptwriting before becoming a musician; first as the singer in art-rock band Sharpie Crows, and then producing electronic music as Ron Gallipoli. He is a founder of the Freezing Works music and film company. Ron Gallipoli completed an MA in Scriptwriting at the prestigious International Institute of Modern Letters at Victoria University of Wellington in 2005 He was the singer and lyricist of confrontational post-punk band Sharpie Crows, who released several critically acclaimed albums – initially self-released, and then throughinternationally renowned record label Flying Nun.

PROJECT:
Black Lantern |Made with archival footage, field recordings and electronic sounds, Black Lantern is a Tropical-Industrial audiovisual installation composed by a self-generating sequence of video edits interrogates colonial propaganda by looking again, and again. Disquieting contrasts and tiny black comedies emerge, and the viewer feels the instinct to construct a narrative from these fragments.Black Lantern uses CC material from Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision archive and other recordings from the artist's personal collection.
Black Lantern is also a magazine compiled by the Journal of Tropical-Industrial Art.It collects speculations on the significance and content of this evolving movement. This issue is edited by Colin-Israel Fulgar and includes speculations on music, architecture and the original Tropical-Industrial manifesto.
