We are pleased to present «The Moiré Effect», an exhibition that celebrates Zaratan's artistic journey through its vast collection of risograph posters. The show brings together around 200 works produced over more than a decade, an archive representing over 160 artists from 36 countries and from the most varied creative fields.
The exhibition's title finds its origin in the printing technique itself. Risography operates by overlapping layers of color, a process where slight misalignments and the interference between screens can generate the visual phenomenon known as the Moiré effect. This physical layering serves as the central metaphor for the exhibition: just as on paper, the show overlaps the layers of hundreds of posters, artists, and events. From this interference between countless individual creations and memories, a new collective landscape emerges that reflects the identity and trajectory of Zaratan.
Produced in small print runs, these posters function as extensions of collaborations, residencies, performances, or concerts. They were conceived to solidify often-ephemeral experiences, leaving a tangible trail that encapsulates the creative energy of unique moments.
This collection also reveals the strategies that characterize Zaratan's modus operandi. Experimentation is manifested in the invitation to musicians, writers, and performers to venture into visual creation, activating innovative dialogues. Alongside this, a certain anonymity in the presentation sometimes detaches the works from issues of authorship, valuing the collective voice and the result of a shared process. The result is a vibrant archive, documenting not just works, but a decade of encounters, exchanges, and community-based creation.
