Exploring new formats at the confluence of his plastic and musical research, João Mouro and Zaratan present As árvores também batem palmas, a new interactive sound installation conceived to be activated on stage - by musicians - or in the audience - by the public.
The installation integrates a set of unusual instruments, built from trivial objects and recycled materials. The sounds are activated by direct contact – percussion, friction, blowing – or by pedals that branch out into the room from the central wooden structure.
The project explores the intersection between sculpture and experimentation, revealing new relationships through sound, mechanics, interaction, and spatial intervention. It is an invitation to intervene for the development of non-verbal communication through the shared experience of music.
The exhibition will be punctuated by performative moments, in which the piece will be activated by the artist himself and by invited musicians.

______
As árvores também batem palmas by João Mouro is the second episode of SUBSTRATO, a new cycle of exhibitions at Zaratan that proposes to stimulate artistic productions specifically conceived for a specific space within Zaratan, namely for the micro amphitheater located in the gallery's black box. This concave structure becomes the central axis of the project. The connection with the space, the environment, and the architecture is an essential element of the works presented, which we can properly define as site-specific.
