Zaratan is pleased to present A Story Unfolding Through Sewing, a pop-up exhibition by Artist-in-Residence Geun-yeong Kang.
Having witnessed the transformation of tourist hubs from her upbringing to her time in metropolises like Seoul and Amsterdam, Kang approaches Lisbon not as a spectator, but as an investigator of space. The centerpiece of this inquiry is a short novel written by the artist—an experiment in "un-learning" the city to bypass the architectural and social prejudgements associated with mass tourism.
In the gallery, this narrative transcends the page to become a physical installation. Using bookbinding as her primary medium, Kang sews her observations together, transforming fragmented scenes discovered across Lisbon into a cohesive, tactile story that invites the viewer to look beneath the city's surface.
