INTERFERÊNCIAS #5
Bezbog + Carlos Barretto

February 7, 2026, 16:00
Entrance €3.5 [monthly membership fee]

We present the fith session of the INTERFERÊNCIAS concert series, curated by Boris Nunes and João Madeira—an unprecedented duo who depart from distinct universes to create a space for dialogue between aesthetics, genres, and generations.
In each session, their choices intersect on the same stage, bringing together musicians with established careers and younger artists whose artistic maturity is already evident.
Alongside this age diversity, the cycle traverses a wide sonic spectrum, presenting proposals ranging from jazz and free jazz to electronic, performative, and avant-garde experimentation.
With formats varying from solo to quartet, and featuring both national and international musicians, INTERFERÊNCIAS is an attempt to map contemporary sound from its margins, creating meeting points between audiences, languages, and sensibilities.

In this fifth session of the cycle, there will be performances by Bezbog—a Porto-based duo composed of David Machado and Dora Vieira—and double bassist Carlos Barretto, who will present his new solo work, Lonely Dog.

About the Artists:

BEZBOG | "There is nothing typical of music, or even avant-garde music, in the true sense of Bezbog's invention here. Warning: this work is not for the faint of heart. Machado and Vieira hope to provoke a real reaction in you, the listener. Their loops (like all loops lately) are part of the construction, but hearing it all come together and gain life from its minimalism is truly hypnotic and inspiring." — by Melomania

CARLOS BARRETTO | Estoril, 1957. He is one of the leading names in jazz and improvised music in Portugal. With training from the National Conservatory of Lisbon and the Hot Club of Portugal, he consolidated his double bass studies in Vienna, Austria, between 1982 and 1984. After an initial period in Lisbon, where he was part of the RDP Symphony Orchestra and collaborated with musicians such as Mário Laginha and Bernardo Sassetti, he settled in Paris in 1984. During the nine years he lived in the French capital, he definitively established himself on the international jazz and improvised music scene. Upon returning to Portugal in 1993, he founded the «Carlos Barretto Quintet» and took on teaching duties at the Hot Club, becoming a central figure in prestigious festivals such as Serralves, CCB, and Guimarães Jazz. During this period, he collaborated with world jazz greats, including Lee Konitz, Art Farmer, Brad Mehldau, and Gary Bartz. In 1996, his album «Going Up» was elected best record of the year in Portugal and distinguished with the Villas Boas Prize. A landmark in his career was the 1997 founding of the «Suite da Terra» project alongside Mário Delgado and José Salgueiro, which gave rise to the trio «Lokomotiv», one of the most identifiable and long-standing projects in contemporary Portuguese jazz.
Parallel to music, Barretto maintains an active painting practice, merging the two languages in the project «Solo Pictórico» (2002). This proposal materializes in shows where original music and painting unite into a unique aesthetic product, revealing his facet as an interdisciplinary artist. Currently, he remains an essential reference in both performance and jazz pedagogy in Portugal.
