FESTIVAL MÚLTIPLO
August 28-29-30-31, 2025

Entrance: 5€ per day
Schedule: 3:00PM to 9:00PM

In its seventh edition, the Múltiplo Festival offers 4 days of musical performances and artistic interventions. With this annual event, we celebrate the fighting spirit of independent spaces, where diverse species multiply at a rapid pace, against cultural homogenization and outside of commercial and capitalist logics, exclusive clubs, and conventional circuits. In opposition to the typical migration of the masses to the large summer festivals, we propose a small festival made by local agents, which allows us to inhabit the historic center and keep independent projects of high artistic value alive.

The Múltiplo Festival 2025 is characterized by a strong component of creative DIY production and involves, in a sustainable and interdisciplinary way, a selection of some of the most interesting artists and agents on the national artistic scene. It presents 17 concerts, the launch of 3 works in multiple editions, and the launch of 17 posters. It also includes open studios and talks.
Similar to previous years, the Festival presents a varied panoply of genres and styles, where you can hear projects proposed by three prominent independent labels and promoters in the Portuguese scene: Variz, Coletivo Casa Amarela, and 4DaRECORD. The seventeen concerts on the bill showcase a diversity of stylistic approaches, with space for free improvisation, modular electronics, noise, drones, and other expressions of exploratory music. Each day, we alternate the proposals of the invited labels with artists programmed by Zaratan itself.

Celebrating the freedom of music through its deconstruction and recomposition in real-time, the 4DaRECORD label proposes a series of 4 collaborations (a duo, a trio, and two quartets) between renowned musicians in the improvised music scene: Afonso Henrique (drums), Tracy Lisk (drums), João Madeira (double bass), Anna Piosik (trumpet), Ravenna Escaleira (saxophone), Nuno Rebelo (electric guitar), Miguel Mira (cello), Carlos Santos (electronics), Paulo Galão (clarinet and saxophone), Luís San Payo (drums), Mário Rua (drums).

Variz presents a selection of artists operating in the gray area between abstraction and the dance floor, with the machinations of Techno Widow, the solo improvisations of Miguel Sá, the modular synthesizers of Druuna Jaguar, and the idiosyncrasies of DJ Lynce.

The Colectivo Casa Amarela (CCA) proposes an exploratory journey, ranging from the textured and immersive atmospheres of Bernardo Álvares's double bass to the ambient and emotional electronics of Carga Aérea; from the cinematic and melodic IDM of Aires to the dark sounds of Vile Karimi's processed voice.

Zaratan complements the musical programming with the harsh noise of the trio André Calvário, João Valinho, and DV; the folk woven into drone textures of Folclore Impressionista; the tribal electronics of Akasha & Ragma; the razor-sharp poetry of António Cova over the clubbing beats of Oko Yono; and the hypnotic and resonant percussion of Haydn Douet Lukies' metallic objects.
To cleanse the auditory palate, the concerts are interspersed with playlists from guest non-DJs, who propose a musical sharing with assorted tastes: João Viotti Kanal Trabalho, Lunytunes, RAY-BAN, and Campolargo.

During the festival, we will present 3 new limited edition works, with one launch per day, resulting from collaborations with artists who have exhibited at Zaratan in this and previous years: Isaque Pinheiro, João Mouro, and Ângela Fonseca.

In the gallery, we present the multiple edition works by Isaque Pinheiro, João Mouro, and Ângela Fonseca, which function as an extension of the solo exhibitions they presented at Zaratan.

The musical programming is accompanied by a specific project of graphic editions printed in risography in collaboration with Stolen Pints, where visual artists are invited to create an original artwork inspired by the sound of each band performing during the festival. The 17 posters are created by Anilina, Boris Nunes, Carlota Jardim, Cláudia Sofia, Daniel Antunes Pinheiro, Fuck Art Let's Kill, Henrique Neves, Joana Geraldes, João Fonte Santa, Luna Ramos, Mamazita, Neuza Matias, Nuno Direitinho, Systaime, and other anonymous authors.

Throughout the 4 days, we will also open the studios on the floor above the gallery to present the research of multimedia artist Amanda Tjhin (ID/NL) and independent curator Suso Barciela (ES), who are part of the international residency program during the month of August.

The Múltiplo Festival has a limited capacity of 60 people per day and the entrance fee is 5 euros per day/person, which reverts as a donation to the association. We do not accept pre-bookings, come early!
