Zaratan Arte Contemporânea invites you to a performative moment activating the sound installation "As árvores também batem palmas" (The trees also clap) by João Mouro himself and Yaw Tembe. In this performance, they will explore the vast sonic possibilities of this sculpture, revealing new relationships through sound, mechanics, and improvisation.

BIOGRAPHIES:

JOÃO MOURO (1985, Faro, Portugal) holds a degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (2009), the city where he lives and works. In 2008 he was a fellow of the Erasmus Program at the Accademia di Belli Arti di Brera, Milan, Italy. In 2013 he was one of the artists selected for the 10th edition of the EDP New Artists Award, participating in the collective exhibition presented at the Edp Foundation and Casa da Música in Porto. He has exhibited regularly since 2007, with the following solo exhibitions standing out: “A casa impossível”, Amac, Barreiro, Portugal 2018, “De férias para fazer o balanço”, Galeria do Banco, Lisbon, 2017, “Foi por casa do carpinteiro”, Show me Art and Design gallery, Barcelos, Portugal, 2015, “Ventanismo”, Galería Astarté, Madrid & Arte Santander, Galeria Astarté, Santander, Spain 2012; “Andar à tulha”, Galerie Patrick Lancz, Brussels, 2011 Belgium & Show Me, Braga, Portugal, 2010, “Janelas de alumínio”, Galeria Novo Século, Lisbon, Portugal, 2009. YAW TEMBE | Born in Swaziland, resident in Portugal for several years, graduated from the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa in the Jazz course, and from the Faculdade de Belas Artes do Porto in Sculpture. He has been developing work characterized by the exploration of the concepts of transience and fragility in a process that has crossed several areas of creation - visual arts, video, dance; music has been the greatest excuse for experimentation in projects such as GUME, Sírius and Chão Maior. His work has been published in several national and international publishers, including Clean Feed, Creative Sources, Shhpuma, three: four records (CH), A giant Fern (UK), at the same time, he has collaborated with several creators (Marlene Freitas, Norberto Lobo, Evan Parker, Joshua Abrams & The Natural Information Society, Orphy Robinson, Hieroglyphic Being, Ricardo Jacinto, etc.) in spaces and festivals such as Serralves, Sines World Music Festival, FITEI, Teatro Maria Matos, Outfest, Culturgest, Montpellier Danse (FR), Athens and Epidaurus Festival (GR), SPRING Performing Arts Festival (NL), Kunstfestival (BE), KYOTO EXPERIMENT (JP), SIDance2018 (KR), Venice Biennale (IT), TransAmeriques Festival, Montreal (CA ) between others. Since 2020, he has worked as a music and sound arts programmer at Teatro do Bairro Alto in Lisbon.
