It is common in the production of metals to use alloys, that is, to combine metals with other elements (usually non-metals). The result of the mixture gives rise to materials that generally differ from the base metals, providing them with new qualities, namely greater mechanical robustness, hardness, or corrosion resistance. Organized by João Fonte Santa, LIGA is an artistic project that fosters a co-authorial approach, where the results of a dialogue between artists materialize in a joint installation exhibited for one day in Zaratan's black box.
Biographies:
INÊS TELES (Évora, 1986) lives and works in Lisbon. She graduated from FBAUL in Painting, and in 2010 obtained a postgraduate degree from Byam Shaw, Central Saint Martins, in London, and a Master's degree in Painting from the Slade School of Fine Art, UCL. In 2013 she was a fellow of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation through the Specialization and Professional Development in Arts Abroad program, in 2012 she won the Jovens Criadores award and The UCL Hardship Fund grant, awarded by UCL in London. Parallel to her artistic activity, she has been working in several museums, exhibition platforms, teaching institutions, such as the Slade School of Fine Art or FBAUL, and is a member of the Tempos de Vista artistic collective. She recently completed an artistic residency in Budapest, with the support of the Budapest History Museum - Budapest Gallery and the Lisbon City Council. She is interested in developing collaborations between artists, working with institutions tangential to the artistic circuit, in order to create unexpected platforms between artists and the community, such as artistic residencies and collective exhibitions.
MARGARIDA DIAS COELHO (Lisbon, 1959).studied painting at FBA in Lisbon. She has developed an artistic career since the 80s of the 20th century in independent spaces (Plataforma Revolver, Lisbon, Casa Bernardo, Caldas da Rainha, Casa das Artes, Tavira, among others) but mainly through discreet interventions in various types of landscape (beach, city, mountain) for which she usually uses materials collected on site, but also in political demonstrations. Her work therefore evokes a political relationship between memory, ideology and the unfolding of history on the places where she acts and society in general.
