Zaratan is delighted to present Is a funnel, is a flower, is a bird, is a view of a river channels from up above, an open studio exhibition by Priscilla Yu.
Yu will showcase a captivating collection of works-in-progress and completed paintings inspired by her month-long residency in Lisbon. Her creative process begins with a deep immersion in nature, as she meditates and tunes into the intuitive sensations and "gut feelings" sparked by the city's natural patterns. From the lines on a palm to the intricate textures of tree bark, Yu finds inspiration in the universal rhythms that connect us to the world around us. Drawing intentionally from these fleeting moments, her works become visual expressions of her curiosity, shaped by a personal visual language that has evolved over fifteen years of dedicated practice.
The exhibition is complemented by an encounter with the artist (October 26th at 6 PM), and the release of a limited edition risograph poster created in collaboration with Zaratan.

BIO: PRISCILLA YU is a Chinese Canadian artist, muralist, and illustrator from Vancouver, BC. Her work draws inspiration from encountered patterns that permeate her daily life in the city as well as in nature’s universal patterns. From the vastness of the cosmos to the intricacies of microscopic forms. Through the use of abstracted perspective and a geometric visual language, she constructs imagined worlds that dwell in a strange constructed gravity, often incorporating her own personal symbology. The process often involves using stylistic constraints as a way to draw imagery from her subconscious. Since graduating from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver (2013, BFA), she has exhibited work in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, and Vancouver, and has participated in mural festivals around the world.
