We are glad to announce the open studio of Gabriela CLavería, artist in residency at Zaratan, who is presenting a sculptural series of humid bodies and watery relationships made of waste found in the streets of Lisbon. Sea water and agar-agar, bodies of water and garbage are consistencies vulnerable to rupture and constant change.

“There are tides in the body”(Virginia Woolf).

BIO: GABRIELA CLAVERÍA (Chile, 1989) is a theater designer, art director and multidisciplinary artist in constant experimentation and change. She has worked as a designer and technician in theater companies, as an art director in photography and videos. She explores and mixes photography, video, theater, music and fashion. Collaborative work has a formative education for her work and growth as an artist and person. Gabriela uses still and moving images, sculpture, and instillation in her constant investigations. These open formats have allowed her to publish and exhibit in various publications, fanzines, and in group and individual exhibitions. Guided by emotions, sensitivity, and the lightness and weight of fluidity, Gabriela work seeks a connection with nature and intuition, destigmatizing the vulnerability and the inconsistency of change. In 2017, she began to investigate the accumulation of garbage as creative objects that comfort her and allow to re-signify a forgotten everyday memory, approaching an otherness found in public space. At the beginning of 2020, Gabriela presented a solo exhibition El agua se va por la salida (BAJ Valparaiso, Chile) where she materialized ideas around the liberation of emotions, finding fluidity as a concept that crosses all her work and personal life. She is currently tattooing and mixing music under the nickname LADRA and starting a new life in Lisbon. >>>
