Filipe Vilas-Boas | EDEN
Zaratan-Arte Contemporânea invites for the closing of the exhibition "EDEN" by Filipe Vilas-Boas.
For his first solo show in Portugal, Filipe Vilas-Boas will take us on a path of his artistic practice where technology meets religion. From the global interconnection utopia and its spiritual magic to the contemporary algorithmic slavery distopia we’re clearly heading to, from hope to oppression, ~~EDEN~~ assembles the two sides of the same coin that we’ve just thrown in the air. Come smell what’s going on in the Digital (garb)Age.
Bio
Filipe Vilas-Boas (1981, Portugal) is a new media artist currently living and working in Paris. Without being a naive tech utopist or a reluctant technophobe, he explores our use of technology and its political, social, psychological and environmental implications. His installations and conceptual artworks question the global digitalization of our societies, mostly by merging physical (IRL) and digital (URL) entities. From streets interventions to robotic hacks, Vilas-Boas’ artistic research takes multiple forms but everything tends to point out our need to collectively decide and design our world.
His works have been shown internationally including the Athens Digital Arts Festival (GR), Nuit Blanche Paris (FR), Heraklion Contemporary Arts Festival (GR), Lodz Design Festival (PL), Ibrida Festival (IT), UNESCO (FR), Saout L’Mellah (MA), Computer Arts Congress (MX).
In 2018, his work was highlighted in the book "Portuguese Emerging Art" and his works were presented in Italy, Greece, Poland, Mexico and France, in two large collective exhibitions: "Human Tomorrow" in Toulouse, at Quai des Savoirs ,and "1.2 .3 Date" at the EDF Foundation in Paris.
This year his work has been exhibited at various artistic and digital events, including in the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence at UNESCO and during the French Language and Francophonie Week at the Ministry of Culture.
