Zaratan AIR | Winter Open Call

Until September 24
For residencies to start between October 2016 and March 2017
Duration between 1 and 3 months

Zaratan – Arte Contemporânea is thrilled to launch its third and last open call in 2016 for artistic residencies to begin between October 2016 and March 2017. Zaratan Artist In Residence programme provides a private workspace, a creative and thrilling artistic community, exhibition opportunities and professional development for international artists in Lisbon (Portugal).
The artists-in-residence at Zaratan are given the opportunity to develop a project over a fixed period of time, and to reflect and consolidate their artistic practice. Our goal is to give the artists the possibility to bring their work in an international context through exchange and collaboration within the local network.
The artist or collective are required to undertake and carry out the research for a period ranging from a minimum of 4 weeks to a maximum of 12 weeks, Zaratan invites a variety of artists looking for diversity, across all mediums and disciplines, ranging from the emerging to the established. We promote a structure to focus, engage and work. During their stay in lisbon, the selected artists will be required to meet on a regular basis with the curatorial team of Zaratan, who will also provide them with technical and organizational support for the entire duration of their research. We provide a fully function flat with a private sleeping room and a private working studio on the top of the gallery, technical assistance, promotion/communication support and the possibility of an open public presentation of the residency process.
Zaratan is an independent, not-for-profit, artist-run-space organization with no external funding. To cover the residency expenses we propose a residency contribution. Zaratan can assist the artists with formal letters of invitation to enable the artist/collective in raising the funds in order to cover the residency as well as the artist’s production costs, living and travel expenses.
We would like to inform that this year 2016, the 4 weeks residency grant offered by Zaratan has already been assigned.
The way to apply for the residency is by spontaneous application, subject to approval.
We request:
- a brief biographical note;
