6th MÚLTIPLO FESTIVAL

July 25-26-27, 2024

In its sixth edition, the Múltiplo Festival is an independent and non-profit event that aims to oppose the typical mass migration to large summer festivals. It is a small festival made by local agents, allowing us to inhabit the historic center and keep alive independent projects of high artistic value. It features a strong DIY creative production component and involves, in a sustainable and interdisciplinary way, a selection of the most interesting artists and agents in the national artistic scene.

The 2024 Múltiplo Festival explores the presentation of solo performances. It brings together a set of 18 concerts, the launch of 3 works in multiple editions, and the release of 18 posters created by 18 visual artists. It also includes open studios, performances, and discussions.

Similar to previous years, the Festival presents a varied range of genres and styles. We start on the 25th and go from the melodic beats of Chikki Chikki, to the experimentalist bagpipes of Vasco Alves, the ambient noise of Local Loser (pseudonym of Bruno Humberto), the unmistakable voice and cello of Joana Guerra, the experimental and meditative jazz of João Madeira on double bass, and the drum magician Gabriel Ferrandini.

On the 26th, we open with the violin sonatas of Mário Resende, the multifaceted voice of Maria Radich, the solo trumpet debut of Anna Piosik, passing through the electronic soundscapes of Catapulta, the stories of the singer-songwriter "Mário, o Trovador", to the eclectic and lacerating beats of Sreya.

On the last day, we start with a concert for children and babies, from 0 to 80, by Pirec Sandex (Rui Pessoa), followed by the multi-instrumental improvisation of Abdul Moimême. And also: the punk guitars of Presidente Drógado, the contemporary music of pianist Tiago Sousa, the bold bass of Miguel Abras, and we close with the phenomenal sound of Norberto Lobo.

The performances will take place in different spaces of Zaratan, transitioning between the concert hall, the patio, and the art gallery.

To cleanse the auditory palate, the concerts are interspersed with playlists from the invited non-DJs, who propose a musical sharing with assorted tastes.

In the gallery, we present the works in multiple editions by Ana Pessoa, Sara Mealha, and Nuno Viegas, works that function as an extension of the individual exhibitions they presented at Zaratan in 2023.

There will also be the launch of 18 posters created from the sound of the festival and made by: António Olaio, Bruno Humberto, Carlos Gaspar, Daniela Rodrigues, Elžbieta Rozanovaite, Felix Vong, Fonseca da Silva, Henrique Neves, Joana Geraldes, João Fonte Santa, João Viotti, Paulo Uliard, Pedro Gramaxo, Salomé Paiva, Sara Franco, Susana Borges, Systaime, and Tiaagh. That is: we invite a visual artist to listen to the musical productions of each participant, and from this listening, an artwork printed in risography is produced in a very limited edition.

Throughout the 3 days, we also organize a meeting and presentation of the work of the artists in residence at Zaratan: multimedia artist Kym Cooper (US) and emerging writer Kathy Nguyen (CA).

The festival is "Múltiplo" (Multiple) in the sense of varied and different, but also because it is a unit that contains several others: the event brings together a growing artistic community, where the identity of the collective is defined and expands more and more, precisely thanks to the union of the unique contributions of each individual. With this event, we celebrate the almost 10 years of existence of Zaratan, a space where diverse species multiply at a rapid pace, outside of commercial and capitalist logics, exclusive clubs, and conventional circuits.

The Múltiplo Festival has a limited capacity of 60 people per day, and the entrance has a value of at least 10 euros per day/person, which reverts as a donation to the association. We do not accept pre-bookings!
