VOZ NA MATÉRIA | Pedro Pousada e Cristina Pratas Cruzeiro

VOZ NA MATÉRIA is a new talk series born from the gathering impulse of artist António Olaio, transforming personal and professional affinities into a space for critical thinking on contemporary creation. The project aims to map the "artistic making" through a transdisciplinary dialogue that brings together a heterogeneous group of speakers, whose reflections will be preserved in a series of printed publications.
The program stands out for its plurality of profiles, deliberately crossing studio practice with perspectives from curation, architecture, research, and philosophy. This approach allows the "matter" of art to be discussed both in its physical and workshop dimensions and in its theoretical and political aspects. By bringing together artists and those who think, organize, and mediate culture, the series offers an integrated and up-to-date view of the dynamics of the art system.

Biographies:
PEDRO POUSADA (1970, Lisbon, Portugal), is an Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) — where he teaches drawing, modern art, art theory, and art history —, and is a faculty member of the PhD program in Contemporary Art at the College of the Arts, an organic unit where he served as Director from 2023 to 2026. His current research interests focus on spatial practices of advanced modernist and contemporary art interconnected with the field of architecture, highlighting the colonization of the symbolic and aesthetic by dominant, simplified forms. He is a visual artist with extensive experience in contemporary drawing and painting, a member of the Círculo de Artes Plásticas de Coimbra (CAPC) since 2010, and currently a member of its board of directors.
CRISTINA PRATAS CRUZEIRO is an Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Art History, NOVA University Lisbon, where she co-coordinates the Performance Art and Performativities of the Arts cluster. She completed her PhD in 2014, specializing in Art Sciences (Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon). Between 2017 and 2022, she developed the Post-Doctoral project titled Collaboration and Collision: Public and Political Intervention of Art (Institute of Art History, NOVA University Lisbon). Both her PhD and Post-Doctoral research were funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Between 2008 and 2028, she was an invited Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. Her research focuses on the relationship between artistic practices and society from various perspectives, with a special emphasis on their articulation with politics. She has multiple publications on the subject and recently published the book Atitude 74: Pichagem e pintura mural na revolução de Abril (Página a Página, 2024).
