Open Lecture:
Anti-Whitecube Artistic Practices
Com Pedro Gramaxo e João Campolargo Teixeira

December 18th, 4:00 PM
Salão das Provas Públicas, Colégio das Artes, University of Coimbra

Zaratan – Arte Contemporânea, in partnership with the Colégio das Artes of the University of Coimbra, is pleased to invite you to an open lecture with artists Pedro Gramaxo and João Teixeira Campolargo.
The central objective is to use Zaratan's experience as an artist-run space to challenge the notion of the gallery as a neutral location (the Whitecube). Starting from a presentation of Zaratan's program, the event aims to open a discussion on strategies for integrating art with its surrounding environment (urban, natural, or social), fostering the democratization and dynamism of artistic production and reception channels.
The invited artists, Pedro Gramaxo and João Teixeira Campolargo, will introduce their practices, recent projects, and other initiatives developed specifically in non-strictly artistic contexts and through collaborative intervention practices.

About the Artists:

Pedro Gramaxo (Lisbon, 1989) is a multidisciplinary "land-based" artist who works in constructive art, installation, photography, and film. His practice analyses and deepens our relationship with space, time, memory, and altered states of perception, exploring the dualism between the natural and the artificial. Gramaxo's work has been presented internationally since 2012, in exhibitions, residences, and public spaces across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He holds a degree in Architecture and a Master's in Architecture and Arts, focusing his academic research on "Artistic Spaces" and phenomenology.

João Campolargo Teixeira (Vila Real, 1994) lives and works in Lisbon. He holds a degree in Sculpture (2016) and a Master's in Art and Multimedia (2021) from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon. He regularly participates in various exhibitions, including the Ágora - Bienal de Arte Contemporânea da Maia (2021) and the Festival Micro Clima (2023). His built work is part of public collections such as Águas do Norte, S.A., Câmara Municipal da Maia, and DSTGroup.
