VOZ NA MATÉRIA | André Sier and Pedro Maurício Borges
Curated by António Olaio

April 18 at 6:30 PM | Free admission

VOZ NA MATÉRIA is a new talk series born from the gathering impulse of artist António Olaio, transforming personal and professional affinities into a space for critical thinking on contemporary creation. The project aims to map the "artistic making" through a transdisciplinary dialogue that brings together a heterogeneous group of speakers, whose reflections will be preserved in a series of printed publications.
The program stands out for its plurality of profiles, deliberately crossing studio practice with perspectives from curation, architecture, research, and philosophy. This approach allows the "matter" of art to be discussed both in its physical and workshop dimensions and in its theoretical and political aspects. By bringing together artists and those who think, organize, and mediate culture, the series offers an integrated and up-to-date view of the dynamics of the art system.

ANDRÉ SIER (1977) is an artist working with code, electronic, interactive, digital, and conventional media. His work combines video games, installations, painting, sculpture, music, mathematics, and computing into electronic art objects and experiences. An award-winning artist at the New Art Fest (2017), three-time winner at Lisbon Maker Faire (2014, 15, 16), Bienal de Cerveira (2009), and Jovens Criadores (2006). Over the last 22 years, he has produced serial interactive objects and works that playfully reveal space-time relationships synthesized in electronic substrates, shown in over 27 solo exhibitions and more than 100 group shows and events. He has exhibited at MNAC (2017, 2016), Museu de São Roque (2011), and MEIAC (2006). PEDRO MAURÍCIO BORGES is an architect (FAUTL, 1986) with a PhD from the University of Coimbra (2008). He received the Revelation Award at the National Awards for First Works of Architecture (1988, ex-aequo) for the expansion of the Regional Secretariat of Agriculture and Fisheries Pavilions for the Azores Fair. He collaborated with João Luís Sousa Menezes' Bugio studio (from 1988) and co-founded a studio in Lisbon with architects Paulo Fonseca and Miguel Figueira (in 1993). A professor at the Department of Architecture of the University of Coimbra (since 1991), he was awarded the Secil Architecture Prize 2002 (2003). He practices as a freelance architect in Lisbon, with over 30 works built or designed in the Azores and a significant number in mainland Portugal. His practice is characterized by a strong focus on urban and landscape integration, often stating that he "draws over pre-existing drawings." He has an extensive portfolio of private residential designs, demonstrating a high capacity for meeting client needs and budget control while creating well-oriented, functional, and high-quality environments.
